The college experience is all about studying, making new friends, and heading to the stadium to cheer on the football team on fall Saturdays. At iconic shrines, some college teams play. Think about Michigan Stadium, “Horseshoe” of Ohio State, and Notre Dame Stadium. But others have home fields that are likely to remind high school fans of or worse. We focus on them. Based on attendance, online comments, and more, we rely on our selection of the very worst stadium at the top level of college football, the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, or FBS.
40. University of California-Los Angeles: Rose Bowl Stadium
Pasadena, California
The Rose Bowl, one of the country’s most picturesque stadiums, is a somewhat creaky venue that needs major repairs. The Rose Bowl opened in 1922 and is a National Historic Landmark, home to the UCLA Bruins. But today, it is known for its awful parking, cramped concourses and seats, and aging facilities.
39. University of Maryland: Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium
College Park, Maryland
At Maryland Stadium, Maryland University must either upgrade or tear down Capital One Field. The stadium needs repair and has been limping on life support for something like two decades. In a review on Google, one fan says, “The field itself needed work as several players slipped and fell on the rubber crumb field-turf.” Combine the lackluster stadium with a program that has struggled in recent years (in 2018, the Terps had a 5-and-7 overall record), and you can understand why some fans chose to avoid it.
