Jack Palance, a legendary actor, got a chance to join the cast of The Dirty Dozen. Palance was initially approached for the role of Archer Maggott, but the character’s racial tendencies turned him off. The directors refused to budge, so Telly Savalas was cast instead.

In the 1960s, many films still used the old-fashioned method of placing the opening credits directly at the start of the movie. Aldrich followed a different path. He jumped right into the action and pushed the credits back until around 12 minutes into the movie.
