Howard Johnson’s
Howard Johnson’s was truly loved by everyone for their fried clams and its amazing 28 flavored ice cream variety that they specialize in. At one point there were more than 1,000 roadside branches during the ’60s and ’70s. It was established in 1925, Howard Johnson’s is now trying to stay as strong as possible but unfortunately for New York, its last shop was shut.
Houlihan’s
Established in 1972 Houlihan’s actually started when the co-founders purchased a previous haberdashery called Tom Houlihan’s Men’s Wear. The architect considered his project as “Houlihan’s Old Place” and ever since then it stuck. The company genuinely did everything by the rules but somehow still found themselves in $50 million in debt and have had to shut multiple stores.
