An individual centipede can have just as few as 15 pairs of legs and as many as 191 pairs of legs, based on the species. Centipedes, on the other hand, have an additional set of leg pairs no matter what species they are from. As a result, they never have exactly 100 legs at any time. In reality, the house centipede will continue to develop legs for the rest of its life. The common indoor centipede can live for up to five to six years, which is a lot of legs for a centipede. One would not anticipate a centipede to be a good mother, but a surprisingly large number of centipedes are protective and nurturing toward their young. Female centipedes construct an underground burrow in which to lay their egg mass. It is only after that that she will protect them from harm by wrapping her body around the eggs, which is absolutely adorable!
