It’s incredible how a small kid was able to contribute to the civil rights struggle. During the Civil Rights Movement, Ruby Bridges became the first black pupil to attend a desegregated elementary school in the South. Despite the fact that her residence was only a few blocks away from the school, the federal marshals were required to accompany her to class for her own protection. On a daily basis, the tiny child had to deal with racists. If she studied alongside white students, white parents threatened to remove their children out of her classrooms. Several years later, she earned her high school diploma from a desegregated institution. She established the Ruby Bridges Foundation in order to aid in the promotion of change and tolerance.

The war was a big trench conflict on a massive scale. Soldiers dug trenches during the American Civil War to protect themselves and to establish a base from which to fight. It was common for soldiers in Belgium and northern France to be forced to spend weeks at a time in the trenches. The trenches were where the majority of the war’s mass deaths occurred. As a result, soldiers were forced to emerge from the trenches in order to face the enemy. Because it was an open field with minimal cover, they were ambushed and killed as they attempted to flee.
