A Traditional Japanese Armor-Bearer Military Commander

Felice Beato took this photograph in 1863. In the original version, the colors were applied by hand. The traditional clothes and cultural customs piqued his interest, and he used the studio to create full-length pictures. His photographs of Japan were enhanced with vignetting, which gave them a more painterly appearance. Koboto Santaro, a Japanese general, was the subject of this photograph. We don’t know what he’s holding in his hand, but we should keep our distance.
