The opening movie premiere for Blazing Saddles was legendary and ignited publicity for a whole host of reasons. Firstly, the special event was held at the Pickwick Drive-In Theater in California. The reason for was this is that they needed enough space for a staggering 250 guests to arrive on horseback! Not only did the guests ride in on horses. There was more. They also stayed on the horses to watch the entire movie in style, to really make it more authentic. Talk about a publicity stunt! We can imagine the atmosphere at the premiere was electric too!

A Famous Fan

When the movie was initially released, it caused a stir around the world. While it was a little controversial at first, it didn’t take long for Mel Brooks to be flooded with appreciation from fans. One of these esteemed fans was a little more high profile than others, and was none other than the famous filming legend, Alfred Hitchcock. After watching the movie, he told Brooks that although the method of producing was a little different, he completely loved it and enjoyed the story and the production!
