It turns out that Kim Novak was hired by Columbia Pictures to replace Rita Hayworth and to compete with Marilyn Monroe. She became famous after starring in Vertigo but has only acted every now and then since the ‘60s. She retired in the ‘90s. In 2010, she announced her fight with breast cancer and lived to tell the tale.

This Italian-Tunisian star started her career by being crowned the “Most Beautiful Italian Girl in Tunisia.” The prize was a chance to go to Italy. It was hard for her to speak Italian, but the good thing was that her looks helped her land modeling and acting opportunities anyway. The had to dub over her speaking scenes to hide her raspy voice and French accent. She became a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in 2000.
