Animals
Animals can be kept as pets by Amish, however, they are mostly utilized for agricultural purposes. In Amish villages, foreign concepts such as animal vegetarianism (for ethical reasons) and substantial expenditures on veterinary care are not commonplace. The Amish are not cruel to animals, but they do not have pets as part of their culture.
Political Spectrum
Clearly, the Amish represent a unique political spectrum, exhibiting characteristics that are both conservative and liberal at different times. As a result of their opposition to divorce and abortion, they have also advocated for modest dress and are critical of popular culture. They do, however, demonstrate their entrepreneurial spirit. Choosing to advocate for fiscal restraint while simultaneously rejecting social conventions is a unique and unusual combination, to say the least.
