Beards
While it is fairly uncommon to see an older Amish guy with a lengthy beard, mustaches are less common. Mustaches are frowned upon, however beards are tolerated due to the fact that men in the Bible sported beards quite frequently. So seeing an Amish man with a thick beard isn’t out of the ordinary for them anymore.
Believer’s Baptism
It is a traditional Amish method to perform “Believer’s baptism,” which is essentially a baptism for persons who have reached the age of majority. Because it is thought that faith does not emerge until the age of accountability, a believer’s baptism is also referred to as an adult baptism or a religious initiation. It is common for children to be baptized as believers when they reach the age where they are able to profess their religion in a sincere manner. This notion can be traced back to the Christian movement known as Anabaptism.
