During the course of the conflict that is now known as the White War, men from both sides engaged in combat across the summits for more than four hundred miles. This continued for a period of three years. The battle took place in a region that is often considered to be among the most inhospitable on the entire globe.

Mount Scorluzzo was once known as a paradise in the Alps; nevertheless, throughout the conflict, it was transformed into a dangerous battlefield. Young green soldiers were made to scale the icy peaks while carrying heavy equipment on their backs. This was done instead of mountaineers who would normally be ascending the slopes. This was not at all simple to accomplish.
