Preston North End 1888-89
The 1888-89 season was incredibly memorable for Preston North End. They were called ‘The Invincibles’ because they won the league and the cup double without EVER being defeated. John Goodall was really at the heart of the club’s winning season, he scored an impressive 22 goals. This was also Preston North End’s first ever season in the Football League as they had just been founded. No other team has ever done this until Arsenal in the 2003-04 season.
Benefica 1960-70
Benfica waltzed into the 60s Golden Era as one of the best teams in Europe. Benefica went on to become the first team to end Real Madrid’s dominance in the European Champions’ Cup when they won two consecutive European Cups against FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Eusébio was an absolute legend as a Portuguese forward, and much of Benefica’s success can be credited to him.
