Now, we can say in hindsight, if they waited much longer, it would have been very obvious that Khan had no future. However, since he still gasped for air, Catherine believed she could save him. In fact, she used all her strength to carry the big Doberman to the car. She rested him in the front seat and sped for the vet. As she drove, his breath began to slow. Only the next few critical hours would determine if he could survive this.

She sped ahead and looked over at her rescue dog. All Catherine wanted was to give this poor dog another chance at life. Again, she reflected on his sacrifice for her precious baby. With these racing thoughts and his life on the line, she engaged in a bit of reckless driving. Actually, she commented on this after the fact, “I never knew I was able to drive this well. I guess adrenaline does its thing.”
