Everyone loves a good hero, but for every hero there’s an evil villain! Thus, we’ve gathered the most notorious villains for you. Ever wonder who the actor behind the most iconic villains are? We’re here to tell you and not just who they’re dating, but what they’ve been up to since playing that evil character.
Dr. Evil
He didn’t spend those six years in Evil Medical School to be called “Mister,” okay? However, one thing Evil Medical School did not teach him was the difference between one million dollars and billion. Mike Meyers portrayed the hilarious villain in the Austin Powers movies. Since Dr. Evil, he’s voiced the lovable Shrek and had many other film roles including on in Inglorious Basterds, but we’ll get to that movie later. Meyers began dating cafe owner Kelly Tisdale and the two tied the knot in 2010. They have three children.
Bellatrix Lestrange
Who could forget her chilling line, “I killed Sirius Black!” Thankfully, Mrs. Weasley shut her up for good and killed this Death Eater. Besides in just the Harry Potter franchise, Helena Bonham Carter has demonstrated her enormous talent elsewhere. After dating director Tim Burton for many years and having two children, the two separated. However, many of her best roles were in his movies such as Big Fish, Alice in Wonderland and its sequel. Helena also starred in Great Expectations as Miss Havisham and in Les Misérables.
Jack Torrance
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy…Jack Nicholson’s role as Torrance in The Shining is perhaps, the most iconic horror film role. There’s no need to explain who legendary actor Nicholson is, but we’ll tell you about his more recent work. Alongside Morgan Freeman, Nicholson starred in The Bucket List. He’s been a little less active recently, but we have some great news. Back in February of 2017, it was announced he will be starring in a remake of Toni Erdmann with none other than Kristen Wiig. This will be his first movie since 2010!
Hans Landa
Ah, “The Jew Hunter” from Inglorious Basterds. Christoph Waltz put on a chilling performance as this Austrian SS officer. Much to the satisfaction of the audience, Brad Pitt’s character gets to carve a swastika into Officer Landa’s forehead at the end of the film. Waltz also played Dr. King Schultz in Django Unchained, Walter Keane in Big Eyes and the villainous Stavro Blofeld in Spectre. Amazingly, Waltz speaks German, English and French and you can hear him speak all three languages in both Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained.
Jigsaw
Do you want to play a game? Your answer should always be no if John Kramer aka Jigsaw asks you! He’s the psychotic killer in the Saw movies. Actor Tobin Bell won two out of his five award nominations for playing this villain. Since played Jigsaw, he’s starred in Days of Our Lives and currently voices for two characters on The Flash.
Wicked Witch Of The West
Of course, everyone wants to say this witch wasn’t so evil after seeing Wicked, but back in 1939 it was a different story. Margaret Hamilton became an international sensation for her role as the Wicked Witch in the original The Wizard of Oz film. Besides her iconic role, this former teacher became known for her charity work with animals and children. Sadly, she passed away in 1985.
Joffrey Baratheon
Perhaps the most hated character on Game of Thrones, we have Joffrey up next. This evil boy king committed horrific acts of violence and cruelty while on the Iron Throne. Spoiler alert…thankfully he was poisoned! Anyway, actor Jack Gleeson up and retired from the business after his amazing performance as this Game of Thrones villain. Enjoy your early retirement, you surely earned it!
Gus Fring
Speaking of impeccable performances, who else hears “I will kill your infant daughter,” when seeing an image of Gus? Chills. Anyway, after Breaking Bad, Giancarlo Esposito has had several TV appearances on shows like Once Upon a Time and Community. Fans of Fring were delighted when he returned in the 2017 Breaking Bad prequel series, Better Call Saul. Did you realize if you take the first letters of the second season episodes, it spells, “FRING’S BACK?” Spooky.
Joker
Why so serious? Hailed as Heath Ledger’s finest performance, the Joker from The Dark Knight Rises is the ultimate villain. This Batman movie came out just six months after Ledger’s tragic death. He had begun dating actress Michelle Williams while filming Brokeback Mountain and they dated for three years until a year before his death. He is survived by their daughter Matilda Rose. RIP Heath!
Nina Myers
Nina Myers was not just the ultimate villain, but a traitor! In an epic plot twist, 24‘s CTU operative becomes a murderous enemy of hero Jack Bauer. After her character died, actress Sarah Clarke has gone on to have a successful acting career. Perhaps, you saw her as Renée Dwyer in Twilight or CIA Agent Smith on Covert Affairs. Nowadays, she’s Eleanor Wish on Amazon’s Bosch.
Gollum
How much fun is it to impersonate this horrific Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit character? My precious… Anyway, Andy Serkis is the real pro here. He’s voiced many other characters including Captain Haddock from Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin and also the Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, which he may reprise in 2017. He’s also said to be playing Baloo in the upcoming Jungle Book film!
Lord Voldemort
Another Harry Potter villain, well not just another but the ultimate…Tom Riddle aka Lord Voldemort. He Who Must Not Be Named had to be named for our epic list. Alas, he was killed after Dumbledore and Harry’s hard work destroying his Horcruxes. Actor Ralph Fiennes is a celebrated Hollywood veteran. Maybe you did not recognize him with his nose and sans horrific makeup, but he acted in The Reader, Clash of the Titans, Great Expectations, The Grand Budapest Hotel and as Gareth Mallory in Skyfall among others. Not to mention, he’s involved with the UNICEF charity as an ambassador!
Duck Phillips
Someone needed to play the anti-Don Draper on Mad Men. Duck Phillips, advertising executive, was a mess and it wasn’t just his alcoholism. Also no one liked seeing him and Peggy together. It was just wrong. Anyway, actor Mark Moses also became celebrated for his role as Paul Young on Desperate Housewives. Maybe you also caught his appearance in the movie Swing Vote with Kevin Costner.
Gyp Rosetti
Some would think it’s hard to find the true villain in Boardwalk Empire, a Prohibition-era show about gangsters. Well, Gyp Rosetti makes the decision very obvious. Actor Bobby Cannavale puts on quite the performance as the ruthless, violent and psychotic Gyp. No wonder he won an Emmy for this role! Since then, he’s starred in HBO’s Vinyl and USA Network’s Mr. Robot. Some of his work in films includes roles in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, the remake of Annie(2014), Paul Feig’s Spy and Ant-Man. He’s been dating fellow actress Rose Byrne since 2012 and they have two children together.
Hannibal Lecter
How could we not include this notorious villain? I mean he ate someone’s liver…”with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.” Gross is an understatement! This cannibal serial killer in The Silence of The Lambs became legendary actor Anthony Hopkin’s most iconic role. More recently, he starred in HBO’s Westworld as Robert Ford. Please, if you haven’t seen it, catch up now as we anxiously await season two!
