Arguably the best show in television history, The Sopranos will forever be a fan favorite. With an all star cast including James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, Lorraine Bracco, Michael Imperioli and more, we couldn’t get enough. Oh, and how about that epic cut-to-black series finale? Now, years later, we’re here to take you back with some behind the scenes info you’ll be shocked to hear! Maybe you should put on Alabama 3’s “Woke Up This Morning,” as you read this.
Livia Soprano Was Only Supposed To Be In Season 1
You may recall that Tony’s tension with his mother, Livia was one of the main conflicts in the first season. However, that was all that creator David Chase intended. Chase planned for Tony to successfully suffocate her with that pillow after she tried to have him killed. Actress Nancy Marchand was sick with cancer in real life. So she requested of David Chase, “David, just keep me working.” Thus, her character, Livia Soprano, continued past season one.
Nancy Marchand Died Before Last Scenes
Indeed, David Chase had Nancy Marchand on the show until she actually passed away. In June of 2000, Marchand died from emphysema and lung cancer, only one day before she would have turned 72! In order to put together her final on-screen moments, the crew used old recordings, footage and special effects. In fact, her head was CGI’ed onto a double’s body.
