Next Big Idea
When Gilligan’s Island began declining, the producers decided a new character could save the show. However, this new character was not your average castaway. No, they thought a friendly dinosaur would really spice things up! However, this would be way too expensive. Creator Schwartz remembered what Hunt Stromberg Jr., the CBS executive told him, “Gilligan and his pet dinosaur! It’s our answer to ‘Mr. Ed.’”
A Wild Ride
The fact that Alan Hale Jr. made it to the Gilligan’s Island audition is a miracle in itself. Why, you ask? First, he began by jumping onto a horse from the set he was on in Utah. Then, he hitchhiked his way to Las Vegas, Nevada. That’s not all! Of course, from there he had to fly to Los Angeles to get to his audition. We are so grateful for that because who else could have been the Skipper!
