Cheapskate
Just because on Gilligan’s Island Jim Backus played the big spender, does not mean he was similar in real life. Actually, off camera, Backus was probably the very opposite. Everyone on the show knew him to be a total cheapskate. In fact, lots of stories about the crew eating out involve him ‘forgetting his wallet,’ thus, making the other cast members foot his bill. Apparently, this happened so frequently the crew began teasing Backus about this habit.

Speaking of the crew’s opinions of cast members, Tina Louise sure made a lasting impression on everyone. We will get to more on that later. Apparently, during Gilligan’s Island shooting, she made the cast and crew make lots of special exceptions for her. Part of this was due to the fact that she felt misled about the role of Ginger on the show. According to her, her agent represented the part as a movie star stuck on a castaway island. Thus, she never realized the show wasn’t solely revolving around her characters’ exploits.
