Holey Jar
After the Second World War, this strange jar which is dotted with holes, was discovered just outside of London. The jar dates back to Roman Britain from the year A.D. 43 to 410. Even though no-one knows exactly what it was used for, there are definitely some theories, like that it was used as a cage for snakes or mice, and others believe that it might have been used as a lamp to allow light to shine out.
Cryptic Sword
In 1825, a sword with a unique engraving caught the attention of cryptographers when it was picked up from a river near Lincoln in England. The engraving read “NDXOXCHWDRGHDXORVI” and it completely baffled linguists and cryptographers. The British Library called to the public for help to solve the 800-year-old sword’s mysterious message. Any ideas?
