It helps to know more about our world. But what happens when even after all the environmental education we’ve received, we still can’t understand our earth? The planet that we choose to call “home”, is home to many mysteries that even my grandmother can’t answer, and trust me, she can answer a lot! Following is a list of the most mind-boggling archaeological discoveries.

The Antarctica Map

We all learned that Antarctica was only discovered in 1818, but was it? Dum dum dum! Piri Reis, an Ottoman admiral and cartographer, compiled a map of Antarctica as far back as 1513. However that isn’t the crazy part, he depicted the ice island without any snow or ice at all! He had even drawn a bridge running from South America to Antarctica. Maybe environmental education hadn’t been invented yet.

The Vampire Graveyard

Archaeologists were enjoying another dig in Bulgaria when they discovered, hmmm, how do I put this… vampires? Well not exactly the kind we see in the movies. What they found were more than 100 skeletons buried with big metal stakes nailed through their chests into their coffins. They believe that this was to thwart the rise of the dead. I guess it worked.
