Light And Dark
Being underground meant that without man-made light, dark would be constant. Torches were used to provide light underground, and until today, many of the cave walls are blackened.

In order to guarantee survival under the ground, the Derinkuyu people created air vents and water canals. If that wasn’t enough, they went as far as building olive and wine presses. Taking it even further, they designated special rooms for study and prayer and even set up stables for their animals.
