Cal Ripken Send-Off
Cal Ripken, Jr. played for an incredible 21 seasons in the MLB. However, nearing the very end, his send-off was remarkable in its own right. During the All-Star game in Seattle at Safeco Field in 2001, Alex Rodriguez insisted on switching positions with Ripken. Thus, Ripken played shortstop again, like he had much of his baseball career. This exchange allowed him to clinch the record of most MLB All-Star games playing the position of shortstop. Also, he got honored with a standing ovation when he appeared at the plate. Ripken became the only baseball player to get honored as All-Star MVP in two different decades, 1991 and 2001.
