Some call it the most exciting World Series in history, back in 2001, the Diamondbacks were up against the New York Yankees in Game 7. The Diamondbacks had clinched the win in Game 6 with a 15 to 2 victory. However, this next game wasn’t going so well as they trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth. Then, Tony Womack tied the game. Next up to bat, Luis Gonzalez stepped to the plate with the bases loaded at the bottom of the ninth during the tie game.

Celebrated In Diamondback History

Even up against the infamous Yankees pitcher, Mariano Rivera, Gonzalez was able to hit the game winning bloop single that flew into left field and got Arizona its first franchise World Series win! Thus, Diamondbacks fans celebrated Luis Gonzalez with pride. In addition, Gonzalez got selected for the All-Star team in 2002 and 2003 following this exciting and historic win. Also, he made the All-Star team again in 2004. However, he did decide to sign with the LA Dodgers in 2006, but he sure gave the Diamondbacks some outstanding and unforgettable moments.
