Darrell Russell
This defensive tackle for the Oakland Raiders and Washington Redskins signed a seven-year, $22 million contract in 1997 which at the time made him the richest rookie contract ever signed in the NFL. In 2004 though he was suspended due to breaking the substance abuse policy. Prior to this, he was accused in 2002 of videotaping the rape of a woman, who was drugged with GHB, by two friends, but prosecutors dropped the charges. Then in 2005, Russell died in a fatal car accident.

Jovan Belcher
From 2009 to 2012, Belcher was a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a season regular who signed a contract of $1.9 million. Then in late 2012, tragedy struck. Belcher shot his 22 year girlfriend Kasandra Perkins nine times, in front of her mother and their three month old daughter was upstairs. After murdering his girlfriend, he drove to Arrowhead Stadium, thanked general manager Scott Pioli, then asked Pioli and Chiefs owner Clark Hunt to take care of his daughter before he promptly shot himself in the head.
