Valerie Harper and Ed O’Neill starred in the 1982 NBC pilot for the crime drama Farrell: For the People, which only made it to the first episode. Dash made her television debut in the show. She had her first prominent appearance as Michelle in the 1985 episode “Denise’s Friend” of The Cosby Show. Dash made his first big on-screen appearance in the 1988 TV 101 series. The 13th episode saw the end of the show. Dash made his big-screen debut in the 1988 Richard Pryor comedy Moving.

On May 28, Fox News declared Dash had joined the team as a contributor for “cultural analysis and commentary.” In reference to President Barack Obama’s speech on Islamic terrorism from the day before, Dash said on the December 7, 2015 episode of Outnumbered that Obama didn’t “give a s***” about terrorism. The network placed her on a two-week unpaid suspension as a result of her comment. In 2016, Dash faced backlash for her claims that the BET Awards misled black people about the Oscars boycott because of a lack of ethnic diversity and for her desire to eliminate Black History Month. She confirmed her opinion with a cameo at the 88th Academy Awards. She and Jeffrey Marty separated in 2020.
