According to forensic experts, more than 400 people were uncovered at the South Leith Parish Church burial sites. The bodies were assumed to be Middle Ages in age. In 2009, they began digging the bodies to make way for the new train line. Because this woman’s body was recovered in a community tomb, the cause of death could not be determined. However, it is more likely that she died as a result of the plague or another contagious disease.
