Anne Hathaway And An 1804 Painting
Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes, a Spanish painter, was a pivotal figure in the romantic movement. Goya was regarded as one of the greatest portraitists of his time, but this painting appears to be a vision of the future. This 1804 portrait of a mustachioed Anne Hathaway, simply titled An Officer, appears to be a portrait of her. It was an admirable effort by Goya, who tried to imagine what Hathaway might look like in a couple of hundred years in the style of Nostradamus. For our modern Hathaway, there’s a little too much mustache.
George Carlin And Charles Darwin
This white-haired duo has two things in common: they both have brilliant minds and they both look like the same guy. Charles Darwin, a naturalist and biologist, is the man on the right, and we can thank him for his contributions to our understanding of evolution science. George Carlin’s career as a comedian focused on critiquing social and political issues, so the man on the left is a brilliant mind of a different kind. In the 1960s and beyond, Carlin was at the forefront of the counterculture movement.
