Midland, Texas
If you drive around the outskirts of Midland, you’ll see that the plains are dotted with iconic oil drilling rigs. The modest childhood home of former President George W. Bush can also be found in Midland, a big city which feels small. In 2000, it had fewer than 100,000 residents but in 2019, more than 142,000 were already living in the city. Midland is now one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S. of this millennium. That’s pretty impressive considering it’s a few hours away from a big metro area.
Irvine, California
Irvine is situated in the idyllic Orange County of California and is one of two cities in the state which have made it to this list. It is among the top 20 fastest-growing U.S. cities for the past ten years according to WalletHub, Stacker and Yahoo. Yahoo reported that population in Irvine had grown by over 35% from 2010 to 2019, and is now close to 300,000. People who want to live in a big city but still a short drive from L.A. are flocking to Irvine.
