Abandoned Railroads in America
The railroad’s arrival in 1827 revolutionized transportation. The bulk of abandoned railroads, as you can see, is in the country’s eastern half, which makes sense given the country’s continual westward growth throughout the 1800s. Trains grew less popular as planes and automobiles became more prevalent, and more railroads were abandoned.
