How She Pushes America Forward
In her leadership style, Anunay never forgets to have empowerment. More people, in our opinion, should follow in her footsteps. “Mentoring, reaching out, and welcoming someone approaching from behind — being the close friend [you] need to push you when you’re not able,” she said. I lead by example and am still present.”
Things Need To Change
Women in the fire service need a distinct strategy, which Anunay recognizes better than anybody else. She is determined to overcome these prejudices and assumptions about her gender. “So what drives me forward is making sure that the prejudices and stereotyping have a challenging opponent or an individual here who did a wonderful job, not only because she was a woman, but because she learned the art and made it a more welcoming environment for women to do great work,” she said. It’s a difficult task, so everyone needs to do it. “We don’t have a seat at the table,” she said. I bear the responsibility to ensure that when we do get to the table, we are treated fairly and that they want us to perform well.”
