A Door Ajar
Tom’s pulse quickened as he inched closer to the door, his breath catching in his throat. The faint murmur of voices behind it felt like the heartbeat of the house itself, pulling him further into the unknown. He pressed his ear against the cool wood, straining to catch even the smallest fragment of conversation. The words were just out of reach, like a puzzle missing its final piece. Every instinct told him to step back, but his need for answers outweighed the fear gnawing at him. With a steadying breath, he pushed the door open a fraction more, just enough to peer into the room beyond.

Overheard Revelations
Tom’s mind raced, each word he overheard like a puzzle piece clicking into place, yet leaving him with more questions than answers. The tone of their voices, anxious and calculated, made it clear that whatever this “plan” was, it involved him in ways he couldn’t yet comprehend. He held his breath, straining to hear more, but the words became even more cryptic. The unknown woman’s voice was calm, almost reassuring, but it was Laura’s voice that sent the coldest chill through him—there was something in the way she spoke, something that didn’t align with the woman he thought he knew. Tom felt a sickening realization settle in—his life, his relationship, everything he thought he understood, was being manipulated. The weight of it all crushed him, but he couldn’t look away.
