The History Of Dreadlocks
For one thing, there is proof that dreadlocks have been worn as far back as 3,600 years ago. Murals have shown that the Minoans, who had been alive in the Bronze Age, wore their hair in long ropelike braids. Aside from this, mummified remains from ancient Egypt were found sporting dreadlock-like hairpieces.
In Central America Too
While the origins of the hairstyle can be traced back to the Middle East and the Mediterranean, more evidence has been found in Central America. Literature that dates back to the Pre-Columbian Aztec era has talked about priests styling their hair this way. The same goes for books and codices that date back to the 15th to 17th centuries.
