Asking The Question
When the cop approached him, William rolled down his window and hailed him. He pondered why he had been pulled over and if he had been speeding but hadn’t realized it. “Good morning officer,” the young man asked, “Was I speeding?”

William tried his hardest not to offend the police officer, who was in a position of authority. The young man didn’t want to get into any mischief. He couldn’t figure out why he was being pulled over, either. William resumed his question in a calm and courteous manner.
