When Germany invaded Europe in 1939, the entire world was taken by surprise. The Nazis were considerably faster and more savage than anyone could have predicted when they arrived. Resistance fighters from several parts of the world teamed together to aid in the liberation of their own countries. Among the services supplied by the Dutch underground were espionage, radio communications, and domestic sabotage. The liberation of the South occurred in 1944. It took another eight months before the northern hemisphere was emancipated.
