In the war against Germany and Japan, men were compelled to serve in the military. Jobs in utilities, transportation, and manufacturing were filled by women to fill the shortages in the labor market at the time. Almost 2 million women went to work to contribute to the war effort by manufacturing munitions and machine parts. Working women’s participation in the labor force climbed from 27 percent to 37 percent between 1990 and 2000. Wives made contributions that were just as significant as those made by males.

Andre Salmon, Gertrude Stein, and Julio Gonzalez were among his circle of friends. These individuals resided in Paris. Aside from Cooper, he had a close relationship with Picasso. They were so close that the artist hosted an event for the actor and his family at his ceramics store in Vallauris to celebrate their friendship.
