Lory Del Santo
In October 1985, Clapton played a couple of performances in Milan, Italy. The musician met and supposedly fell in love with Lory Del Santo, an Italian woman, while he was there. They didn’t seem to mind that he was married, and they began dating, according to reports. The pregnancy that ensued from this romance broke Boyd’s heart for a multitude of reasons.

Boyd Was Devastated
Boyd, you see, has been trying to conceive for a long time. Boyd and Clapton had even attempted but failed to conceive at an IVF clinic. Boyd seemed to be experiencing a string of miscarriages. When Clapton told Boyd that Del Santo was having a child, she was very distraught. According to Clapton’s biographer Philip Norman, she felt “like [her] heart was about to disintegrate.”
