After leaving the Yardbirds, the rocker joined John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. Clapton subsequently joined Cream, a band noted for improvised blues and “arty pop,” before joining Blind Faith in 1969 and going on to work with Derek and the Dominoes. With this last group, Clapton co-wrote the hit song “Layla.”
His Friendship With George Harrison
By the late 1960s, however, Clapton had gotten acquainted with George Harrison of the Beatles. Clapton even performed a guitar solo on George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” from the Beatles’ 1968 album “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” something he would do multiple times.
