Crocodile Dundee was one of the biggest hits after it first came out in 1986. The said movie was not only popular in Australia and Hollywood— it also became popular all over the world! People are now wondering what made the movie so popular. Was it the chemistry of Linda Kozlowski and Paul Hogan or was it the great plot behind it? There are tons of reasons why the movie was a major hit. It was even nominated for the Academy Awards for its writing. Aside from that, it also won a Golden Globe for the lead actor’s excellent performance. Because of its popularity, fans are now looking forward to the TV adaptation of this outstanding movie.
Since it premiered, the movie has become hugely popular and definitely is a cult classic. The film gained a huge fan base and was well reviewed by critics. After the first Oscar nomination, it was quickly decided to be turned into a true blue trilogy! We can’t believe the initial premier was back on April 30, 1986. That is when it first debuted in Australia. Not too much longer after on September 26, 1986, it premiered in the USA. It became the second-highest-grossing film in the USA that year! Can you believe that? There were actually over 46 million tickets sold only in the US.
One interesting fact is many don’t know there are actually two versions of the film. One is Australian, and one is international. Guess which one has adorable Australian slang? Moreover, you might be wondering how the story became a movie. Did you know the lead actor is actually the story writer? When he was traveling in New York, Paul Hogan said, “There’s a lot about Dundee that we all think we’re like; but we’re not, because we live in Sydney. He’s a mythical outback Australian who does exist in part—the frontiersman who walks through the bush, picking up snakes and throwing them aside, living off the land who can ride horses and chop down trees and has that simple, friendly, laid-back philosophy. It’s like the image the Americans have of us, so why not give them one?… We’ve always been desperately short of folk heroes in this country. Ned Kelly is pathetic. So are the bushrangers.”
